The Iraqi Communist Party (ICP)

Topic started on 2-12-2004 @ 06:06 PM by General Zapata

The ICP has a long history of fighting for freedom and worker emancipation in iraq, beginning with the brutal repression at the hands of the british colonial government. The iraqi workers were the first in the middle east to seriously fight for their liberation.

here is my question: if the revolution had been successful in Iraq, would it have been exported to other middle eastern countries also suffering under brutal monarchies and colonials, and would the entire region be better off today?

It was my understanding that Saddam's Baath party were socialists. I also know that I have heard that Syria has a Baath party very much like that of Saddam's Iraq. So it seems to me that socialism read communism was exported throughout portions of the middle east.

I can't really see the benefits of totalitarnism throughout the middle east.

Absolute power corupts absolutely.

What a truely ignorant statement so what you are saying is that Ba'athists were communists yes, Ba'athists used the term socialist in their party title, but so did the National SOCIALISTS, and even the most isolated red-neck knows that the communists and Nazis didn't get on too well and neither did the communists and the Ba'athists Perhaps because their ideologies were quite different

Nope the middle would have been worse off think of another iron curtain. The communist states would have self destructed like the soviet union did thou out the late 80's. The only thing left would be border disputes and civil wars.

I wish to make one point clear it didnt matter who came to power in the post colonial era the middle east would still be very unstable. Lets not forgot it was only around 80 years ago that T.E. Lawrence was leading the Arab TRIBES against the turks. It took western civilization thousands of years to develop stable Democracies.
The Arabs try to learn government in less then 100 years is it any wonder they missed something out?

the only reason the iraqi cp is getting any attention really is because they're pro-amerikan.
they didn't disagree with the amers when they invaded them, and they certainly won't when they turn that place into a parking lot.

As much as I would love to see the Iraqi Communist party take control, I am afraid it is the last thing america would ever let happen. They don't understand, you can not take a basically third world country and put them into a more advanced democratic/capitalistic society. I am in no way saying democracy is better, for I believe it isn't, but with America's ideology, they want to turn Iraqi into something that resembles a full fledged democratic society, not going to happen.
