This year has been a bloody year, numerous people have died in Iraq and on Christmas day when we all are equal and celebrate, we should take time to
remember those who were taken from this Earth. I call for a minute post silence on ATS on Christmas Day where ATS will remember the troops and the
Iraqi civilians. I think it will be a good idea.

1 Minute Post silences happen anyways, especially on weekends. And since this is on Christmas I doubt there would be too many people on anyways. Maybe
like 10 minutes or more.

So just shut down the site for 60 seconds and replace the homepage with "ATS is observing a minute of silence in solemn reflection of..."

And for those that miss the 1 Minute of silence, we could have a link that takes them to a page for exactly 1 minute then returns to the homepage
again......

Infinite-
For what it's worth I think your idea is a warm hearted one. I agree, it would be nice to have a "moment of silence" for all the loved ones who
can not ne with us.
The only thing is maybe leave the main page with a message about a min of silence so people don't think there is a problem-conspericy site and all...

A great number of people don't celebrate Christmas, given this is a global community, we're not likely to accomodate such a "silence" event.
Feel free to express your sentiment in our member holiday thread, however.

if we took the time to remember everyone that dies (in war or no war) then we wouldn't be doing anything but being silent and remembering the dead.
by all means be thankful for the fact that there are brave people going over to fight in iraq so we don't have to, also remember and honour that
fact. however, to stop our lives and stop what we would normally be doing isn't a way to remember the dead. you don't have to be silent for a minute
to respect and honour troops who have died in iraq. people will want to remember in their own time, and christmas is not a time about remembering the
dead, it's being thankful for what you've got and to know that your life however bad it is that there's always someone out there whos a lot worse
off.
i guess you want to take your chance to remember now so you can say yep had my minute silence...ive done my part. then again in a year or 2 those
soldiers that died will become another statistic, just another name on a white cross. the only people who will remember is the families that have
lossed a loved one. you think bush is going to grieve about the 1000s that have died? i very much doubt it.... he'll make a speech, we'll have a
minute silence and everything will go back to being fine and dandy. peace, happy holidays to everyone

[ grinch who stole christmas silence ]
I hate to be the grinch, but i'm mean green and furry which either makes me an ugly marine or a grinch or both, so here goes with my grinchiness.
1. Nobody is going to shut up around here.
[ political correctness ] Not that you have to shut up anyway. [ / political correctness ]
2. Most of the people who were raised properly and would therefore shut up wont be online anyway- they were raised properly and therefore probably
have families to spend the holiday with-
[ political correctness ]unless of course they dont celebrate Christmas- which pleny of properly raised people dont- I hope i didn't accidentally
offend anyone with that. [ / political correctness ]
3. When I'm dying- and although I consider myself to be a God I believe I one day will- I'll probably be thinking about something I wished I'd said
or done. Therefore let's observe a day of saying stuff worth saying instead of a moment of silence.
[ political correctness ] I do not claim to be -your- God. Your God is just fine. Your God is as good as all the other Gods- perhaps better. [ /
political correctness ]
[ / grinch who stole christmas silence ]

I suppose anyone wanting to participate could add a symbol or quote on their avatars, same as we did with the white ribbons.

how bout we shut down the whole site for a whole day because i think another 50,000 people starved to death in africa and they will do everyday. even
while we are tucking in to our big fat juicy turkeys there will be many many 1000s in africa going hungry...if you want a silence how about doing it
for them...yeh the marines and troops had it tough...but no one has it as tough as those starving kids in africa.
it's double standards...being silent for the troops cause we care so much, but we won't even bother to think about whats going on in africa cause it
doesnt effect us.

I certainly effects me. And I think of all suffering people. I know the causes too - greed, lust for power and selfishness.
For my Christmas present, I would like all politicians and greedy financiers dumped on a nice windswept island - then maybe the rest of us could live
decent lives - whether we are in the USA, the UK, Africa or anywhere else.

Are you nuts? If those people weren't living on the same land that we do they'd already have nuked us to do away with our pesky "human rights".
What say we just set them on fire? I've never even seen a chesnut- dont know if i'd like em, but I could go for some political nuts roasting on an
open fire this season!
