What if the USSR did not fall?

Topic started on 25-4-2005 @ 07:21 AM by ulshadow

I can't find a place to post this so i just going to post it on Political Conspiracies.

In 1991 the Soviet Union fall. What if it is the other way around? Let said in 1991 USA falls instead of the Soviet Union, would today world be the same?
what do you think? what would change?

Here are few things you might want to think about if you can't think of anything to said.

Would we still have Terrorism?
Would All of Europe fall under the Soviet's Iron Curtin?
What would change in our maps? What new countries would form?
What will happen to the United States?

Please give me more answers on what you think will happen besides the questions above if you can think more.

(MOD EDIT: Corrected spelling in title)

Yes, I'd have to agree with your last assessment. But if you like that kind of alternate history fantasy (and this is a real fantasy in my opinion), check out the novels by Harry Turtledove. Maybe Mr. Turtledove even has a novel about this topic in the works.

The more conspiratorial question is what if the USSR really didn't fail and it was just an orchestrated reorganization, some people have argued that on these forums before...

And Putin seems to be trying very hard to put it all back together again. The old ways die hard - especially when generations of Russians have been indoctrinated with the old Soviet dogma.

yea, i can bet you that the Soviet Union will come back to power if the US falls in the near future, and the world will be a really ugly place.

But, i want to hear what you guys think if the Soviet Union didn't fall what world events would change today?

How would the US have fallen? Soviet Union is long gone and only a dream by communist sympathizers to believe that it was a 'strategic' move.

Economic crash maybe? Corruption? Oh wait, that just gets ignored over there...

If the USSR was still about without the US it would be much the same as now. One nation telling others what to do. Differences would probably be cosmetic, i.e: Soviet flag being flown from tanks invading Iraq instead.

Putin trying to bring it back? Give me a break, he's cancelling the benefits system for war veterans and stuff, wanting to privatise... He is also being opposed by a vast, vast, number of people who disagree. But what do you? He is practically a dictator.

One day it won't be 'Top Dog', in the long run it is likely China and India will both over-take it, due to the ability to control such a large portion of the World's Labour Market as well as the massive internal market this can cause and the availability to natural resources.

In the long run, those two Nation's will over-take the rest of us and the U.S. and E.U. will battle it out for third and fourth, however it is a good 50years away.

The soviet union is gone forever. Not to come back EVEN if the U.S were to fall apart.Which it looks like that could happen(with Bush and terrorism).Too many former soviet states are in a demacracy to switch back now.But if it were the other way around...we'd be screwed up pretty bad.

why exactly does everybody thinks that the world would be so freakin screwed up if the soviet union won, it would all be the same, don't you think the world has been messed up by the US anyway, Iraq Iran soon, Israel doing whatever it wants, Nukes being blown up in NK. the USSR has done anything worse than what the US has done over the last century. Americans have a way of thinking that the US is actually spreading democracy, all it's spreading is military capability and miltary influence, just like the Europeans thought they were "civilizing" the world with there colonisations... and please the USSR didn't fall, it just switched courses, if anybody read about it, it was one of the biggest shocks to the whitehouse in the last century, nobody expected it, Gorbachev i guess just felt like it....

Of course Europe would be next; the Soviets knew they wanted it which is why the Cold War didn’t fall sooner. The Soviet Union would still be hear to day if it wasn’t for Yeltsin who effectively chucked Gorabchof out after some old style Soviets rebelled, and failed because he handed ended the cold war (which had benefited them as members involved with it at the top of the system).

No it wouldn’t anything short of overhaul the Soviets would impose a dictatorship where countless intellectuals get killed, or sent to slave labour camps.
We are currently more like a “dictatorship” where countless intellectuals get ignored. It’s obviously bad, but I much, much more prefer the U.S-“Western” method.

I mean it’s so much more efficient, you don’t want to go round killing people with brains. It’s much better if to let them live so they can work for the economy, as well as maybe, maybe accidentally-coincidentally benefit the ideas behind your own goals-thought.
All you need is a biased mass owned, mass media to control the majority of the population (prowls) and to let many underground media’s like ATS proliferate. These underground media inevitably (and probably quite rightfully) attract spies as watchful members.
The intellectuals aren’t going to do anything. All they’re going to do is talk to other intellectuals, and burn energy by creating ideas, but ultimately the audience will always be limited because by definition they’re only room for expression is an underground press. Any dangerous activities like rebellion-terrorism can be destroyed and criminalised by just one spy.

The net result is that you can have a legal system as a your democracy, but a political system which is more like (or even is) an advanced dictatorship.
In short all the advantages of a democracy and non of the disadvantages. It was the quest of the elite to remove the disadvantages that got us where we are today, a classic case of the evolution of ideas, quite unlike the Soviet system where founding almost any idea was extremely dangerous.

If you think America and the Soviet Union are the same I suggest you come to England and talk to some polish.
The Soviets had the same goals as all wicked elites the world over. The problem was their methods where rigid (stuck in time), and as a result so much more inefficient. It’s this efficiency which is expressed in greater numbers of lives lost, and lower economic productivity that made the system so much worse. Not just for society, but ultimately (in the end) even for the elites themselves. Hence it was always going to fail, not for being evil (of course) but for being inefficient to the point on being anti the interests of societies elite.

deltaboy That’s one cool video game!! It makes me appreciate living in a capitalist system (even if not all is as it first seems).

Socialist/commies=people who want others to do the work for them while having all the same benifits!!

No, that is not anywhere near a correct definition.

A Communist is a person who advocates the revolution of the proletariat, and the eventual
democratization of work and resources, and eventually a stateless society.

A Socialist is a person who advocates, in the short term in a capitalist system, the use
of taxes to fund social programs to uplift the needy and poor, and eliminate poverty,
involuntary homelessness and make sure everyone has access to health-care, regardless
of there financial status.

In the long run a Socialist is a person who advocates a society based on democracy,
and in which money no longer existed, and people no longer work for monetary gain,
but rather to improve themselves and humanity as a whole.
