ATS, BTS, What would you like to see in the future?

I would like to see the "delete all subscribed threads" option removed from the spot it now occupies and placed off to the side or in the top bar.....

It is waaaaay too easy to accidentally hit it in the present location, and then lose all of one's precious subscribed threads. And then there is NO "undo" option for correcting the unintended disaster.....

The last, most recent time this has happened to me, I was not even seeing the "My ATS" screen, but had an 'unresponsive' window that was covering it! As best I can tell, when I clicked the close button on the visible window, the " delete all subscribed threads" option was directly below, and was activated by my intention to close the other window!!

Now I have tried to revisit some of my old threads and re-subscribe to them.....but for some reason, even though the thread shows that I've subscribed, some of my 'best' threads do NOT show up in the subscription list on the "My ATS" page !??
And I have waited a couple of days, to allow time for things to update...

Here's an example....
My ATS page
One thread that will not show on my sub list, tho it displays the 'un-sub' button as if I am subscribed!
Any suggestions??

how about we add the "star" feature to this thread? so that not only the owners get to decide what gets changed, but also the membership?

there were a good few ideas that i would have liked to back up, i guess i could regurgitate them, but if they were dismissed the first time, whos to say they wouldn't be when i repeated them?

edit: sorry not a reply to frayed1
edit to add: dang mistypes>< my gorilla hands.

also lets get a spell check for all us gorrilla handed people

It would be great to have a flash bar like a ticker to announce important things like an interesting broadcast/radio program that is about to air about subjects covered here at ATS.

Just a small addition. If MyATS included the time and date of the entry, which I had posted, it could be found easily.
Thanks

on another board I use, my friend actually wrote the code for, there is an open chat bar or thin window, that has all the current logged on users, you can also PM people. I find this to be a very useful aspect of the site, and it really helps keep small and stray chit chat out of the forum and keeps more pertinent information in the threads. Granted there is still the chit chat here and there, but it seems to encourage people to do their chit chatting in pm or chat.

and maybe giving a little more creative room for the personal profiles, then again, I guess that doesn't make sense, since you can link up your myspace if you want. but the chat feature could really be revamped to be more beneficial to the board.

I love the star method. I WOULD like to see a method that allows people to show they disagree as well.

Hello Simon, thanks for asking the question. One minor thing I find irritating is having to scroll up and down through the individual page. I have been in other forums that have a segment on each post that you can click on to go "back to the top" of the page without scrolling up. Does that make sense?

Hi Simon,
one thread I visit quite regularly is the "RANT" thread, it's good to have somewhere that folks can let off steam, but with all the doom, gloom, and conspiracies going on around here, wouldn't it be nice to have somewhere for just the opposite?

A thread called "PRAISE" or "THUMBS-UP" or something similar.

A place where thanks can be given, good news can be shared and basically a place that will always offer a brighter perspective for people to enjoy.

Just a thought.

I would like to see points awarded for positive contribution and I mean that in a sense of time spent on the site, Good posts and replies that are more than two or three lines and maybe awards for anniversaries, such as maybe points awarded for six month and then yearly bonuses for being a member. Points awarded to a member who reaches certain milestones in applauses and thread posts /replies, and like my man Forrest Gump says" Thats all I got to say about that"

Every time I say something that is pro socialism, regardless of how well it is written, I would get my own galaxy of dark stars

Same for pro gay rights. Even if it was written very well, the Bible thumpers of ATS would throw dark stars at the post as if it were the words of Satan himself.

Any post about republicans or democrats would receive a dark star from every democrat or republican respectively! heh...

I think this is the reason there is not a negative star system in place.

I think people would be more inclined to give negative stars. It would be swamped with negativity. That's my take on things anyways.

I see your point LL. Im not sure it would be as bad as you think. Im an optimist though - to a fault. The reason I mentioned it was because there are some posts that I read that get me all fired up. Not sure it is their view or the way they voice that view that gets to me. Either way, I want to be able to express that I disagree with them, seing as one liners are out of the question, I figured dark stars would work. I would just post something, but the whole brain mouth (fingers) thing stops working when I get irritated. So, I take caution and dont post at all.

The star method I think has been one of my favorite updates to this website. Both for being able to show support to a favored post and for being shown support.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned before but here goes:

On Youtube when users want to post a comment on any video they can also use a "audio preview" button for a comment they're about to post.

I was thinking that this might be useful for those that don't want to read too often,or for those who prefer an auditory discussion.I'm not sure if people prefer to hear a male, female or robotic voice.

But then again I really don't know if this can make discussions better or worse and I do have doubts as to how this would be implemented and how costly it could be.

I would like to suggest a RATS type forum available to everybody. Many threads are posted in normal forums for all to see, but for some reason or another (Eg. escape google ) get moved into RATS.

There should be a place that provides the security of RATS, yet allows all members to log in to see these threads which were never intended for RATS.

This post copied from the ATS Issues thread per mod instruction where the question came up about people who post without reading the whole thread, sometimes missing crucial information that makes their post meaningless.

I've been thinking about a suggestion that might help with that, although it may be too difficult to implement.

I'd like to see the OP allowed to modify only the opening post indefinitely. That way, they could go back to the post and add "UPDATE: proven to be CGI; see page 12," or "UPDATE: see additional evidence on page 4" or (as I've needed to once) "This thread CLOSED as it's a duplicate; to discuss this go HERE (and HERE would be a link to the other thread).

Alternatively, perhaps a mod or two would chime in and respond on how they would react to being u2u'ed and asked to make such a modification to the opening post for "the good of the thread?" I know they are overworked already but GOOD reasons to add an update to the OP probably don't happen all that often.

Following on from this closed thread

We need a place for Abductees moderated by Abductees

I think there is demand for

A restricted area similar to RATS but for Abductees, in which members have to specifically ask to join.
People / Trolls who violate the T&C's to have access to this area removed.

But, people / trolls who access ANYWHERE on ATS have their rights removed. They have to ASK for permissions to join? Do you have any idea how much more work that'd require on the staffs part? There are over 170,000 user accounts, at least 75,000 of them are active, having at least logged in once, and of those 75,000, at least 4,000 are frequently active. That's a lot of people to manage, that idea just is not practical with that many users.

What i would like to see is similar to a poster above, some extension of the u2u, or a separate prog running as an instant messenger, that would have your friends list on it showing who's on line, with a chat box separate from the web page so you can browse the site and chat at the same time.
