What makes you a moderate?

Topic started on 31-7-2006 @ 01:08 PM by maria_stardust

I visit this forum on occasion because I consider myself a moderate in the full sense of the word. Like others here, I feel the brunt of ridicule that comes from sitting on the proverbial fence. That said, I am here to make a stand, and let others know where I stand of specific issues. I invite my fellow fence-sitters to do the same.

I am going to use a simple for/against approach here.

affirmative action - for
immigration amnesty - for
death penalty - for
corporate welfare - against
social welfare - for
Iraq war - against
marijuana legalization - against
medicinal marijuana use - for
stem cell research - for
gay marriage - for
gay adoptions - for
raising taxes - against
patriot act - against
free speech - for
abortion rights - for
minimum wage increase - for

While it appears that I'm a stark-raving mad Democrat, I'm actually left of center on most of the issues involved. I don't believe in the absolute black/white dichotomy that seems to be the mantra of present day politics. The "either you're with us or you're against us" mentality is such an absurd notion.

So there it is. My moderate stance on the issues.

I can't give a 'for or against' on some of these, it really depends on the situation at hand. However I'll list the ones that I can provide a definite answer:

affirmative action: for
immigration amnesty: against
death penalty: for
Iraq war: for
marijuana legalization: against
medicinal marijuana use: for
stem cell research: for
raising taxes: against
patriot act: for
free speech: for
abortion rights: for
minimum wage increase: against
