You can buy your very own custom title at the ATS store.
The red titles represent your ranking, members, mods, super mods, admins...
It can also say if you're a writer (collaborative fiction), fighter (Debates), or scholar (research projects).
Banned people have no red title.

Other than "member", what does the rankings mean?

They should be self explainatory.

Mod- Self-explainatory
Super mod- Mods on crack
Admin- The mods of the mods. Beware!

U2U John Bull 1 for details.
Being a writer is the easiest and most fun title, in my opinion. It's really cool writing collaborative fiction with all these other people.
It's a bit late to become a fighter (debater), since the debate tourney has already started. I think you can join after this one's over.
No new research projects lately, so you may have to wait a while until you can get added to a team.

Recommended ATS "career path":
Learn to post quality posts and never post crap or insults. Understand the different dimensions of ATS by exploring and researching them. All the
information you would ever want about ATS is already here. There is a Search button to help you find it, as well as explanatory notes within each
Forum. The most credible posters have probably learned all of that, sometimes without ever posting elementary questions.
Be a Writer first. Show some creative flair.
Become a Scholar later, when there is a research project area in which you have skills and knowledge to make a contribution, and you are passionate
about the subject matter.
To become a Fighter, enter a debate tournament after a year or so of ATS posting. Don't enter one, ever, unless you have the time available to commit
to making your points and responses on time. Don't enter a debate tournament if there is any risk that you may have to drop out.
Never be a Mod or a Supermod, unless you have qualities and skills necessary to discern someone being sincere from someone being a dick. It is also
probably good to have had some formal training in mediation if you want to be a Mod at ATS.
Those are my opinions. They are valid only because I said so. Other paths are also very possible.

Do not have too much creativity if you become a writer. I had too much creativity and now i am not a writer any more.

In some cases creativity is just a euphemism for god knows what else.

Fighter=means they are part of the debates
Writer= means they are past of the fiction writing
no title=means they are banned
scholar=means they are part of a project

Wow I never knew all that.
I always though that people just wrote those as custom titles.
