Global Warming? Bush43 Says ‘Let's Talk CO2 Emissions NEXT Year!’

Topic started on 2-6-2007 @ 09:53 PM by donwhite

America may spew more greenhouse gases than any other country, but some of our 50 states are astonishingly more prolific polluters than others and it's not always the ones you might expect.

The AP analyzed state-by-state emissions of carbon dioxide from 2003, the latest US Energy Department numbers available. The review shows startling differences in various state contributions to climate change. Wyoming's coal-fired power plants produce more carbon dioxide in just eight hours than the power generators of more populous Vermont do in a year. Say Hello, VP Cheney. Pssst! Who was with you at the SECRET energy policy meeting?

Wyoming is the largest exporter of energy to other states the WY Gov repots. On a per-person basis, Wyoming spews more carbon dioxide than any other state or any other country: 276,000 pounds of it per capita a year, thanks to burning coal, which provides nearly all of the state's electrical power. VP Cheney has long denied there is such a thing as global warming. Geez. What a leader!

The report shows two-thirds of the Wyoming carbon footprint "is a consequence of energy that is developed to feed the rest of the national economy.” Officials in Wyoming contend their CO2 numbers are skewed because of their small population but Vermont, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia have similar populations but have only one-12th the per-capita emissions of Wyoming. So much for that lie.

Texas, the “leading” state in emitting greenhouse gas, cranks out more than the next two largest CO2 producers combined, California and Pennsylvania, which together have twice the Texas population. "Some states are benefitting from both cheap electricity while polluting the planet and make all the rest of us suffer the consequences of global warming," said Frank O'Donnell, director of the Washington environmental group Clean Air Watch. "I don't think that's fair at all."

World’s Worst Polluters. Texas belches almost 1 ½ trillion pounds of carbon dioxide yearly. That's more than every nation in the world except six: the United States, China, Russia, Japan, India and Germany.

Instead of trying to wean themselves from coal, Texas government officials went out of their way to encourage the state's biggest utility to plan for 11 new coal-burning power plants that would have produced even more carbon dioxide.

The Texas state agency charged with monitoring the environment declined to comment on carbon dioxide emissions. Spokeswoman Andrea Morrow said the CO2 gas "is not a regulated pollutant." A Texas lawyer said, “It's unfair to pin all the blame on the coal-using states,” said lawyer Jeffrey Holmstead.

Holmstead is the former Bush administration air pollution regulator who ruled that carbon dioxide was not a pollutant, a decision that was overturned recently by the U.S. Supreme Court. Sweet Jesus!

In sparsely populated Alaska, the carbon dioxide produced per person by all the flying and driving is six times the per capita amount generated by travelers in New York state. The report noted that the states putting out the most carbon dioxide are doing the least to control it, except for California.

Thank You George Bush! I know you really love America. You are leaving us such a fine L E G A C Y!

I think the "Global Warming Debate" is swipe at our mad rush forward in technology and it will only get faster and faster. The ludites, the nannies, and the conformists are oozing out in every sector possible. They don't want to enjoin the future.

The problem with their approach is there is no feasable way to stop global warming other than killing off 5.8 billion people and going back to the cave.

If we halt our appetite for new technology and development when the world reaches 10 billion people, and it will, life on Earth will be worse than Hell.

There will be energy wars raging everywhere. You will have access to electricity for 6 hours once a week.

Let's take a serious look at this because this is the REAL CHEESE. The world is projected to need double the amount of power in use today by the year 2050. It will need 4X today's output by 2100 and by 2150 it will require, not desire, require 8X the amount of energy in use today. Without that added output world progress will freeze up and fall apart. There will be chaos and war. The end will come with you or your descendants huddled in a dark shelter with no hope of help arriving.

Putting a little solar power panel on your roof is not going to equal the vast amounts of energy we will require by 2050, 2100, and 2150. We need thousands of new high energy resources, or the end will come. We need Moon-based solar power, huge orbital-solar power stations, nuclear power, coal power, and we need to nail down fusion power once and for all, or you can kiss everything you know and understand today goodbye.

How's that for a scary senario. I think it beats "Global Warming" hands down. We are on a treadmill of our own making and until the population bomb is defused we must provide energy or die in an armagedon type demise.

This has nothing to do with the meager price of gasoline.

If your not thinking of future energy needs, then your thinking of your own suicide!

Prescient! Powerful! Poignant! Penultimate! Perceptive! OK, that’s redundant. But I’m astonished to hear you make the case for population control so forcibly. It’s got to be China’s one family, one child policy world wide. And we should have started it in 1950. We’re already 4 billion people behind in a workable survival strategy! But that means we must furnish a substitute for the children those 2-3 billion near abject poverty people who depend on their children and grand-children for their old age economic survival, what we look to social security to do for us. So do you think the War 2 top tax bracket of 91% is in order? Or are we going to talk ourselves to death?
