Israel Forces Settler to Return 300 Stolen Olive Trees

Imagine yourself a Olive Farmer with over 300 trees on your farmland and you wake up one morning to find all of your trees missing? Well this is what happened here. This news happened about a week ago and the Plaestinian grower had insisted that settlers had come and uprooted as well as stolen his trees. This accusation was denied by the Settlers claiming the 150 trees they had were planted over 5 years ago. Well this week it turns out that the settlers had uprooted and stolen the Palestinian mans 300 trees and had even taken them and replanted 1/2 of them as their own. The Israeli Civil Administration has forced the settlers to return , replant and even upgrade the mans orchard.

These kinds of things have been going on for ages by both sides, but you would think that Israel being the supposed more civil of the 2 would never stoop to such things, let alone allow it to go unpunished. Had this been a Palestinian perpetrator, his lands would have been confiscated, his house razed and he would have been imprisoned for many years.


These are your tax dollars at work aiding these settlers to build within proximity of the Palestinians who are already poor and to deprive them of even what little they have left. People wonder why they hate and attack them? Its because the Israelis hate them and not only attack them but steal their &&&& as well, land, houses,farms, taxes , water you name it!!

The most constructive thing Isreal could do to create peace in the Middle east at this moment would be to dismantle it's settlements in the West Bank Palestinian territories. The next best thing it could do is allow trade and employment across it's border again with the Fatah administration.

That includes risks for Isreal but it also requires some bravery of Isreal to make some sincere gestures.

In relation directly to your points PieMan about the more "civilised" of the two countries, there are hotheads and bullies on both sides of the equation. Isreali settlers are often rednecked racists towards Palestinians.

On the other hand Isreal is also a civil society with laws and moderate people. One should applaud the enforcing of civil standards upon settlers.

But you see even though the US has requested this, they are not doing so. They are expanding and building new settlements and outposts. This is what ticks me off. Never mind just trade and employment in Israel. They need to allow Palestinian americans who are willing to invest their money into Palestine and help build themselves up. Israel needs to stop bombing their airports and infrastructure and open themselves to tourism once again.



Their laws are also geared towards Jews..Its a Jewish country. If Palestinians had done this can you honestly say that they would just have been allowed to return the trees? Farmers shot and killed a Palestinian who was trying to steal a chicken Sy...if a Pal had shot the settler for being on his property what would have ensued?

Its not all on the up and up there and you are right. Its also not being handled like its not all on the up and up as well. Its lopsided and until its evened out there wont be a solution and things like this will continue and perpetuate.

I totally agree.

The problem is that Isreal is a country which has always had to fight for it's existence and it therefore has a very ethno-centric fortress mentality that everyone else is the enemy. Even Isreal's relationship with USA is very manipulative of USA.

My biggest criticism of USA is that it allows Isreal to get away with so much that is not acceptable. Without USA, Isreal is nothing, but the willingness of USA to use it's influence for a just outcome between these two people's is what is really lacking.

USA is the only country which can bang their heads together at a negotiating table. Things will not change with bush at the helm.

This is not a problem of the Middle East, that was something Theodore Herzl took into consideration as well as the Zionist Congress when they were pushing for this state to come into existence. They were forwarned over and over again that this idea was not going to fly well, it was re-worded many times over to make it more appealing to the arabs and it was totally disagreed upon. Theordore Herzl only felt that such hatred would be fuel for the fire of Zionism and it would make the state even more Populated not only because of the hatred but the anti-semetism generated would force people to make Aliyah to Israel.

If you read up on the History you will see many things were done to discourage this decision. Its not the fault of the present day Palestinians nor has it been the fault of the past century Palestinians that this idea was shoved down their throats without their approval. You can deny it all you want but these people were there and they were there in great numbers almost 1million well before the zionists went there. They got a bim deal then and they are getting a bum deal now.




This is what I am pissed off about we are not being honest and fair brokers for peace, and this is one of the main reasons why we have become so unpopular. It is not only obvious to the arabs that we are being hypocritical towards their fellow arabs but its becoming so obvious now after so many vetoes in the UN Sec Council that we are shielding them and its been going on for many years. The only way to do this is as you say to bash their friggin heads together! How? You know they will not listen to reason...the only thing to affect them is financially, just as we did to Palestine. Thats the only way to put them to the table. Both must be finacially strangled to where they can no longer be violent to one another.

People can deny this all they want till they are blue in the face, but Israel IS one of the major reasons for problems in the Middle East and the sooner we take care of that issue the sooner we can move on to other pressing matters like our own country and that of countries like Sudan.
