Exxon Valdez Supreme Court Taking Case

Topic started on 29-10-2007 @ 11:28 AM by Realtruth

Almost 20 years later and this is still not resolved. Exxon spilled the oil and did a lot of damage and is trying to buy more time.

With the money they are making now they could settle this instantly. This sickens me.

Supreme Court to Take up Exxon Valdez Case

Separately, a lawyer for the plaintiffs in the case confirmed that the high court would take up the appeal.
Including interest, the award could cost the oil giant up to $5 billion as the last piece of major litigation surrounding the oil spill, which involved 11 million gallons that leaked into Alaska's Prince William Sound after the Exxon Valdez ran aground. It remains the worst spill from a ship in U.S. waters.

It's greed. Once you get money the last thing you want to do is just give it away 'for nothing' in return. They know what they did and what happened. A case like this will already take a long enough time to resolve. It wasn't Exxon that spilled the oil themselves, by the way, but a tanker owned by them. That makes their company liable for damages from environmental laws. That doesn't change that the fact of them trying to skip out on paying any better though.
