I wonder how long it would 'deter' people from railing into each other? People have to let 'their guard down sometime'.
Imagine some poor slob getting juiced up and coming home one night and taking a baseball bat out...and 'letting er rip' on the surveillance system?
He/She will be fined immediately, and before they know it, the door is busted down with a couple of cops hanging over you, ready to haul yer arse
in?

You would definitely need a "drunk cam" that would be impervious to spit, feces, bats and salami. I could see salami being a real problem.
"Hey, you *%&^ing camera, stop watching me!! Why, you want some of my salami? Yeah? Well. HERE IT IS!" (Smashes camera with salami)

Almost spit up the last dregs of my java...looking at the poopy part...gack..lolol
I would imagine the system would have a back-up of some sorts. Mabey the officials will go-for-broke and install a small blackbox (ones they use on
airliners). That way, when the house is burnt down (baseball dude swings at the electrical circuits and causes a fire), we'll be able to comb
through the ashes and arrest his....um...burnt torso? ok...I know..sick.
The Domestic Violence Blackbox (DVB) will be intact.
We definately got to get this subject to the podiums!

I think that I have found the perfect debate training/practice/excercise...
...attempting to talk with a rabid christian about god. They are are brutal and don't seem to really care what is said...they have an answer for
everything.
No offense intended in any way, shape, or form to christians in general...

Guys, just finishing up with the Budski right to keep and bear arms debate.
Any feedback for me?
I got thoroughly sidetracked and forgot to mention half the stuff I wanted to.
Also: does anyone else think we need a more compact form of debating? Somewhere in between the unstructured rants of normal ATS posts and the
uber-protocol of debating threads.
It took me about 45 mins at a time to draft each post! Would be nice if we had a form of debating where its a quicker back and forth exchange with a
character limit of 2000 or so.
Anyone else agree?

Interesting idea, 44SS...I suppose an option like that could be made available, kind of like a rapidfire where a debate can take place in one day.
They could be worth a half a point or have their seperate system or just be a fun exercise....at any rate...sounds like a fun idea that should be
considered...

Quick check-in. It's production week at the paper and I'm putting in extra hours trying to knock this one out of the park- our hopes of winning best
college paper in California pretty much hang on this issue. I'll be back late thursday or maybe friday.

Trying to throw an opponent out of their stride is quite an effective tactic, but not one to try with an experienced debater, I don't think.
Try keeping 2 windows open, one with the debate and one with your response to remind you of where you wanted to go next.
Decent debate though - I quite enjoyed it.

If I take 45 minutes, then generally I have a good, long, well-thought out post. It'll have sources, good rebuttal, etc.
I don't really do rough drafts, plan ahead, or anything of that nature. I should. In fact, sometimes if I'm really rushing (especially as of late
due to going out of town), I'll read my opponent's response while simultaneously quoting them for my rebuttal. I don't like doing it that way,
because it's rushed and often I miss important tactics that my opponent has done.
But anyway, I'd say 45 minutes is a good amount of time to spend per post.
