Well, my speakers stopped working on my computer, but this is nothing but marketing. I don't see the whole 'putting people into a frenzy' that you do.

No matter WHAT comes along, there will always be people who obsess. You'll find that with ANY candidate.

I've been in marketing for awhile now, and I can with 100% certainty tell you, that Barack Obama is not doing anything I haven't seen before, and all he's doing is marketing himself. No propaganda.

I am skeptic as well as a believer. I hope you are right

I know why I like him, and I know where he stands on most issues. If you watched any of the Democratic debates you would, too. Another way to learn about Obama is to look at his voting record and his stand on issues. This information, as well as speeches he has given, etc. are posted on his Senate website, which is different from the website given in earlier posts:

Are you taking the fact that he is charismatic and a great speaker who appeals to the best in his listeners, the fact that he can unite people behind his message of hope, and turning that into something evil? Do you demonize all Democrats, or just this one?

If you want to see voters whose candidate inspires an almost religious fervor, consider the many Ron Paul supporters on these boards.

By the way, Obama was not raised in a Muslim household. His mother had no particular religion and encouraged him to investigate all of them. He did this and 20 years ago joined Trinity United Church of Christ. This is all in his book, "The Audacity of Hope," which I recommend.

When you are in grade school you tend to practice the religion your parents practice.
I did not say is a Muslim now…he had a Muslim up-bringing.

the thing that bothers me about the whole thing is the religious undertones to his whole campaign. definatly fosters a cult like mentality, devoid of rational thought. obama is just as corrupt as mccain, but the diffrence is everyone knows mccain sucks. obama has this cult of personality, and the media definatly helps keep it going. i dont necessarily agree that he is the antichrist but there is certainly something very creepy and cultlike about his campaign. people who are normally very rational that i know think of him as the second coming of christ, but all obama ever does is spout off vapid fluff devoid of substance.

Look, Every type of government has been tried through out the ages. They have all failed. Rome lasted 600 years or so and eventually tanked, All forms of man's government fall short of solving real problems of man kind. History proves this. Th DOW proves this etc... How long do you think the creator will let his creation try and prove he didn't create them? How long would you allow your kids to put themselves in danger. Time and time again we prove we can't do with out him. Could Obama be the one described in scripture who takes us to the end of God's patience ? I think it is very possible. World events certainly support it.

If his name was John Smith and he was a white middle class american I dont think there would be half as much animosity towards him as there is. As much as people reject it and don't like to admit it race is going to play a big issue in this election. After all he is different to the stereotypical candidate and people dont like what they cant understand.

I'm Independent.... so I haven't been swayed by a Party thruough all of this. I don't know ALL of their politics and policies and records, of course... but that being said....

Over the course of the last several weeks, my opinion of McCain has steadily dropped. He seems to take it all so personally, and becomes tense and aggitated at the debates, for example. He seemed to struggle to look Obama in the eye, or even look his way at all. I haven't fully developed my opinion on Sarah Palin, but... I find myself cringing more and more. I have a biased beef though...all the credit she gets for having a 'special needs' child, and how they use that to say she understands the needs, blah blah.................. I have a son with Down syndrome... 15 yrs old. Give me a break, she's only changed some diapers...she has NO clue yet. And their rallies...................for them to ALLOW anyone to shout things like, "terrorist" and "kill him" was unacceptable to me. I think the proper thing to do would have been to have those people escorted out by security. Especially because, if Obama does win.... being the first black president will put him at greater risk. It should not have been tolerated- just on a HUMAN level.

I found myself agreeing with Colin Powell today, and all his reasons for endorsing Obama.

So I guess at this point...I lean towards Obama. I think McCain is running his campaign in a way that is definately going to hurt him on election day.

If you look at Obama's plan, and McCain's plan, you'll see that Obama's plan will run the economy into the ground (I know it already is, but it'll get worse). I like the idea of giving money to the less fortunate, who can get jobs, and get SS checks in the mail, not. Who in their right mind would allow their hard earned cash to be distrubuted among the populious? Not me!!! (Oh and i'm broke by the way, and i don't want any help from anyone, since it was my fault, just like everyone elses problems. Now Obama keeps put on those commercials about the $5000 tax credit dealing with health insurance that McCain wants to use, people who support Obama must not know what a tax credit is, a tax credit is general a nonrefundable one, which means the money is not yours to begin with, and just because there is a tax credit, doesn't mean that is crediting a new type of tax. Now do I believe that Obama is the Antichrist? Yes, but not only the Christian one, but the Third Antichrist for Nonstradomes. You can tell he is by the way he rallies the masses, and my mom says that the Antichrist will fool even the elite, well I'm not an elite, that's the whole trick. I'm a normal person, who looks at every possible expliantion to a problem or happening, who believes in everything one way or another, and who truly knows what is evil and what is good, because I've lived both ways, and seen both with as much equality as humanly posible. But let's say I'm wrong about Obama, the fact of the matter is that the Democratic party will own the House, the Senate, and the Presidental chair!!! This government was made to not get stuff done so quickly, just like how our founding fathers designed it. By the way this is a Repulican system, not a Democracy, so that means it's easily corrupted. I'll be honest with all who reads this, i'm afraid of what will happen if Obama gets in office. And if he does, God help us. My choice for McCain is not only would I find it a sacralige to vote for the Antichrist, but the man is older and wiser, and his plan for reducing taxes and government spending will bring the economy back, this will happen slowly, but it will work if the time is given for it to work, and I just want the thank the person who made this site, I thought I was all alone on my ideals about Obama Thank you.

In the end, people will go to the polls and say two things to themselves. The first is, "who will tax me more..." and the second, "who will protect me and my family more..." Then they will rethink everything as they enter the voting booth, and vote for McCain. I am already seeing this trend here on the ATS. At first it was all "I love Obama" threads every day. Now they are more critical and questioning, and second thought threads. Where any opposition to Obama usually got you a sticker on your post, now I see dissent more tolerated.

Obama is probably a really cool guy to hang around with and go to rock concerts with, but when it comes down to national and economic security, you end up voting for the responsible adult and then go hang out with the cool guy at the sicial parties.

But to be on topic in all this, IMO Obama is both creepy and evil, although I don't think he is intentionally evil, but passively evil.

See, I disagree completely. I think that the vast majority of discussion (whether MSM, online, or with coworkers) make no mention of his race.

More importantly, "polite" people give him a pass, and don't really critique his candidacy, because they don't want to seem like racists.

By way of comparison, think of the calumny heaped on Palin, based on "who she is." In many ways, her liabilities complement or mirror Obama's own. But no one will talk about Obama's shortcomings in detail, again, for fear of looking like racists. So, Palin has already gotten much more scrutiny as a new white female politician that Obama has, as a new black male politician.

This will hurt him severely in the actual voting, because many voters still harbor grave doubts about the policies and institutions he's connected to, but they don't dare say so for fear of being labeled racist.

So, there will be a lot of unspoken, unadressed questions in the minds of many voters.

I think it could cost him as much as 5-8 pts. in the polls. Which would mean him losing some largely anglo "swing states" and bringing some other "solid blue" states into the purple camp.

Not saying he will lose; just saying it may be closer than expect, with some upsets for him in purple states.

All the earnest talk and comparisons: should I get this one or that one, which would be better ? Which would be better in the long run ?

Should I choose the one which will last ?
Should I choose the one that all my friends say is best ?

Which one can mum and dad afford ?

Which one will break first ?

Will I still like it by the time January rolls around ?

Can I get a refund if I don't like it once I've tried it ?


All the anticipation ! A new toy !

But the gloss soon wears off. And you're stuck with your choice. Even when it fails to live up to expectations and hype. Just like last time, lol

very good comparison. Your post made me think of kid cereal. Great commercials during the cartoons on Saturday Morning, with colorful labels and your favorite characters.

But the packaging is more nutritious that the sugar and carboard it contains. Worse, the prize at the bottom is never anything like what was advertized on the box. And now your stuck with eating that cardboard until you finish the whole box.
