Prime Minister Helen Clark is to attend a NATO meeting in Romania in April where discussions will be held about the future structure and aims of the
military deployment in Afghanistan.
Defence Minister Phil Goff says while the military presence is maintaining control over the vast majority of the country the problem with the
insurgency has not gone away.

Asked to comment, Mr Goff said: "It is not our intention at the present time to increase our presence outside of Bamian. Our focus is very much on
Bamian."
Patrolling across the province had been effective in maintaining security but infiltration from insurgents could not be ruled out.

I predicted that if there is going to be an increase in NZDF personal in the Bamian province the announcement will come in April . This would give
Helen something to bring to the table . There isnt much else she could bring to the table. Helen cant put political pressure on the likes of Germany
to contribute troops in a combat role when she doesn't allow the NZDF to do so.
Is it any wonder that the insurgency is still active when countries will provide there forces with such limtied mandates ?
