Things can only go down hill from here . Now I am all for transparency when it comes to political donations but I should be free to donate as much or
as less as I want to without having to get third party status. I wouldn't mind been listed as such after giving a certain amount of money to a
political party. But nobody should have to apply for third party status .
That aside the Electoral Commission is one of those body that should remain above the daily grind of politics this is vital to our democracy . Yet
thanks to the Electoral Finance Act this no longer possible. At some stage Electoral Commission is going to seek prosecute a political party and I
have no doubt that there will be an uproar.
While I like the way the NZ political system is geared but I do think that this shows that the Attorney-General shouldn't be a sitting MP . The Act
must be awfully close to violating the Bill of Rights.
