Spoils of War

Topic started on 5-4-2008 @ 01:10 PM by photobug

Don't you think that as the conquerer of a country the conquerer has a right to that countries resources? At a minimum do you not think that the winning party should be able to utilize the fallen countries assests to recoup war costs of the conquerer. Why then are we not shipping every ounce of oil out of Iraq into our own economy? Wheteher or not you believe the war in Iraq was right or wrong the fact of the matter is we are now the occupiers and Iraq is essentially a terrritory of the United States. I want all of my taxes back that were spent on the war. You can just pay me back with barrells of oil. My taxes helped fund this War I expect to be repaid. I see it as an investment. I invested my taxes in support of the war on Iraq. As such an investor I demand a return on my investment.

That's a good point. Oil companies pay us back now! There's people making money hand over foot on this debacle, we should tax them for the privledge. Why do they hate the future so much?

Hmmm... I thought we were there to free the people from the clutches of their evil ruler, Saadam Husein and allow the country and people to be free as a democracy...? I didn't know we were there to simply "conquer" the country. Why am I confused about this?

I see you're taking a page from G-dub and declaring victory already... "Why then are we not shipping every ounce of oil out of Iraq into our own economy?"
Hmmm... tough one... because it's not ours...?

And sadly, it seems you want your tax money back because we haven't received these "spoils." Possibly we should all be demanding our money back because the whole thing was a sham, instead...

George Romero called... he could use you as an extra.

1st off, pb, my apologies for the final comment above. The 'venting' always goes thru my keyboard or pen. The folks at work are glad I'm venting it all thru the keyboards lately, but that means you guys all get the brunt. Nothing is ever personal; simply brutal comic relief is all.

That said, two further points to make here: 1> the whole US Territory thing... it's really unclear to me how you even get there in your mind, and I'm not being snide or sarcastic. That just baffles me. and 2> Regarding your investment. If that is the way you look at it, fine... but as with any investment, you are not gaurenteed any returns. In fact, you may end up losing everything. It is simply a gamble. Investing in the stock market, war, or the casino... it's all a gamble. Sometimes ya' go home broke.
