The REAL Problem in America: The Biggest Drug Addiction Known to Man

I don't really watch TV... maybe 40minutes in 3 weeks. The internet is another story though, bundles of information at your fingertips, with the popup blocker no ads to distract, search whatever topic you want whenever you want!

The internet is a useful tool, of course there can be abuse though.

I think if I bought a TV it would be hooked up to the computer as a large monitor.

Reminds me of a song with great lyrics.

Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy

Television, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T.V., it
satellite links
our United States of Unconsciousness
Apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive
The methadone metronome pumping out
150 channels 24 hours a day
you can flip through all of them
and still there's nothing worth watching
T.V. is the reason why less than 10 per cent of our
Nation reads books daily
Why most people think Central Amerika
means Kansas
Socialism means unamerican
and Apartheid is a new headache remedy
absorbed in it's world it's so hard to find us
It shapes our mind the most
maybe the mother of our Nation
should remind us
that we're sitting too close to...

T.V. is
the stomping ground for political candidates
Where bears in the woods
are chased by Grecian Formula'd
bald eagles
T.V. is mechanized politic's
remote control over the masses
co-sponsored by environmentally safe gases
watch for the PBS special
It's the perpetuation of the two party system
where image takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite politics are served to
the fastfood culture
Where straight teeth in your mouth
are more important than the words
that come out of it
Race baiting is the way to get selected
Willie Horton or
Will he not get elected on...

T.V., is it the reflector or the director?
Does it imitate us
or do we imitate it
because a child watches 1500 murders before he's
twelve years old and we wonder why we've created
a Jason generation that learns to laugh
rather than to abhor the horror
T.V. is the place where
armchair generals and quarterbacks can
experience first hand
the excitement of warfare
as the theme song is sung in the background
Sugar sweet sitcoms
that leave us with a bad actor taste while
pop stars metamorphosize into soda pop stars
You saw the video
You heard the soundtrack
Well now go buy the soft drink
Well, the onla cola that I support
would be a union C.O.L.A.(Cost Of Living Allowance)
On television

Back again, "New and improved"
We return to our irregularly programmed schedule
hidden cleverly between heavy breasted
beer and car commercials
CNNESPNABCTNT but mostly B.S.
Where oxymoronic language like
"virtually spotless", "fresh frozen"
"light yet filling" and "military intelligence"
have become standard
T.V. is the place where phrases are redefined
like "recession" to "necessary downturn"
"Crude oil" on a beach to "mousse"
"Civilian death" to "collateral damages"
and being killed by your own Army
is now called "friendly fire"
T.V. is the place where the pursuit
of happiness has become the pursuit of
trivia
Where toothpaste and cars have become
sex objects
Where imagination is sucked out of children
by a cathode ray nipple
T.V. is the only wet nurse
that would create a cripple

I really do not like watching TV - it makes me sleepy. And usually there are no really good movies to watch, and if there are, they are always interrupted with tons of commercials, which really bother me to be honest. I think commercials have become most agressive in past ten years, because when I was little I do not remember so many commercials - and especially not between a movie. And most problematic are little children, who watch these commercials at very young age , when their brain is only developing - yet they are already bombarded with so much information.

Seriously, we are what we consume. It's easy to be spoon-fed whatever the spin doctors decide to throw our way. If it happens to be mental garbage, and we choose to accept it, then we can only blame ourselves. At some point we have to take responsibility for our actions.

Starred and flagged!

Actually this does bring up the issue for me,as there is something essential and instrinsic in our creative natures. Media in itself is not bad. There are so many wonderful contributions to our consciousness, made by multimedia approach. I think the real enemy is the control of media, not the media itself. David Icke says clearly how mainstream reporters keep us in the desired paradigm, by repeating. In other words, someone putting in an enormous amount of research, revealing much historical evidence and quotes from the PTB own mouths, ie. "End Game" by Alex Jones (and it was evidenced so well, by their own mouths) can be ignored and become a subject of ridicule, whereas the mainstream reporters, today, without even lifting a finger to research the validity of one statement, merely repeat what the buffoon says, and we, the mindless controlled sheeples, feel proud of ourselves for for having kept up to date on current events.

Here we go again - let's blame the device and not the people who abuse it.

The TV is the problem - not the people who choose to spend hours in front of it
Guns are the problem - not the people who use them to commit crimes
Drugs are the problem - not the people who abuse them
SUVs and Large Pickups are the problem - not the consumers who continually bought them for decades
Fast food is the problem - not the people who eat it on a daily basis

You're right. Clearly there's no pattern here. *Sarcasm off*

It's really not that big of a problem. Just don't watch it. Besides PBS and some sports, I don't watch any tv/news. As a matter of fact most of the people I know don't watch tv. I find alternate forms to keep myself up to date with current events. STAY AWAY FROM CORPORATE MEDIA. It's not that hard.

excellent post 'sos37' - couldn't agree with you more.

to the masses - 'you're a fool if you let your mind be taken control of by media'

i agree.

but if you want to blame TV, you have to blame all of life. you have to damn schools, all religions, all friends coworkers and family, music, movies, and pretty much every other form of human interaction and society, because when it comes down to the nitty gritty like your post suggests, you cannot trust any external stimulus to be anything less than a form of mind control or brainwashing.

this thread is trying to control me, making me feel guilty for liking what i like, making it seem i do not like what i really like, regardless if i like it, because it's not a like that is my own but a like that is foreign and invasive to what i really do like but i cannot trust that which i like, for how can you like a like that you do not like. but i LIKE it.

but i really do not. i do not purchase a monthly subscription for cable, nor do i have bunny ears to even watch the local network tv. why?

it does not matter why, because for whatever reason i did it, i do not know if it's because i really do not want it, because i really think it's controlling my mind, or because i really do not have the money to waste on it. all i DO know is that i am probably better not addicted to it. but we all have our addictions.

i love coffee.

I just bought 56 inches of high definition flatscreen mind liquefying television, and have 300+ choices of channels to waste away on. I love it. But I don't sit and only watch BS tv, I like science, history, nat geo, food network, I love comedy and thrillers, and the news and weather channels get a good workout from us too! I cannot imagine not having this entertainment an information device in my living room, and I don't want to live without it. Long live the TV!

I would like to say that if I had small children in my home the viewing time would be strict and limited, my own viewing time is limited by my lifestyle/work habits, but when I can, it is very satisfying to me to watch my fav shows, or a good movie, or some new discovery show, there is so much TV that is good that I can't let the BS shows keep me from missing out on the rest.

that's the thing. there are good shows on tv [and i find ways to watch certain shows that i find worthwhile].

is AWARENESS of the danger of mind control enough to combat it and to still enjoy what you do like, like with the tv or anything else? or is it so controlling and obligatory that once your eyes and ears see and hear whatever of foreign influence, you are taken over?

You're right about TV. It took me FOREVER to teach my kids that a coyote could never really eat that much dynamite and live.

I disagree about the internet. It is like TV, but it is interactive. TV tells you what to do, but you are in control with the internet. You can find information that are relevant to what you are looking for easily, so all you have to do is sort through all the bullsh!t (similar to TV). Some websites, such as www.aol.com are full of sh!t like all the TV channels, but there are alternative websites, while there are not alternative TV stations, as they are all owned by 1 of 6 corporations.

ill add my opinion.
the only thing worth watching on tv is historical documentaries on the history channel. everything else... no.
but i dont even do that anymore. there are plenty of great history research sites on the net though.
i use the net as a tool for research, and discussing things on this forum.
so should everyone else

Absolutely, TV is the modern day, psychological WEAPON, used by the Elitists and their government goons to keep the populace distracted and misdirected, while they keep us in total servitude and apathy to what is going on. It IS like a drug for many, like a giant, sensory tranquilizer dart, that keeps their focus on consumption and materialism...Buy, Buy, Buy...Work, work, work...Obey, obey, obey...Conform, conform, conform.

Awesome thread Mad_hatter.

So then what do you say we should be doing? Not whether or not to do something, but what to do? Do you suggest to react to these evil "elites" we should all run over to Washington DC, kick down the door to the Capital, go in there and yell at overyone in there for what they are doing? Do you think we should go and start breaking laws left and right? WHAT? See, that's the problem -- none have said what should be done, other than "wake up and do something". But what and how?

You seem to be missing the point. The key lies within yourself and what you decide to do. Each person makes up the whole and the whole cannot function without each piece. The solution is simple. Just don't believe everything you see like the majority of Americans. The article is all about making decisions for yourself and not by what television tells you.

The library is your friend

But does that entail the things I said? What should I do? OK, so TV is not the answer. What is? What should really be done? Or are you just saying not to believe everything one sees and reads, and nothing more?

I say, by far, the most profound problem in media today is that Rupert Murdock is in nearly 90% of every household in the US, where 86%+ of the population has either cable or satellite TV. There are over 14,000 radio stations world wide.

The numbers worldwide are staggering when you consider how many lives are potentially affected in some way by Murdock.

I find it equally weird that someone would actually WANT that power, but thats a different subject.

"The REAL Problem in America: The Biggest Drug Addiction Known to Man "

" When will we realize that it is no one's fault but our own."

lmao

Everytime I see someone oogeling a large teevee @ bestbuy or costco, I look for a chance to make my comments....which are usually along the lines of;

" great technology, too bad the programming doesn't match "

I usually get a look like, their looking for antennas in my head or they get a soured look...because it never occurred to them, and I disrupted their fantasy..

But the truth is, you can't tell folks who are deep in the rabbit hole, that they are deep in a rabbit hole, because they don't know it, and they surely won't snap out of it from this post or anything else.

Those who are aware, can only plant seeds, [ I plant shock seeds.. ] and hope they eventually grow.

I've found, that people do popular things, because of socialized expectations, and history/tradition and peer pressure to conform. So, even if they really weren't interested, they find something about it, to focus on, that they do enjoy...eventually they forget about that they really weren't too interested in the beginning, but to not be an outcast, they just went along.

If enough people start a family "teevee banning party", [ or something similar, to counter the crap on teevee ] the pressure from the grass roots will start. with any luck at all, it may spead from a family, to a neighborhood, then town, then?!?!?

you may find this interesting;

www.hollywoodunmasked.com...

Frank Zappa did a song about the crap we see on teevee... " I am the Slime on the Video, I'm oozing along on your living room floor"

I had to go find the lyrics, so here's a few more words;

" I am gross and perverted
I'm obsessed 'n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you

I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin' out
From your TV set "

good post...another star for you

"Hi, my name is PeggyM and I am a tv addict. I stopped "using" about three months ago when I started school. It wasn't easy. I could have lost my job if it were not for the VCR taping the programs that came on when I was at work. I couldn't concentrate wondering what program would come on next. I surfed the channels until I wore the writing off the arrows on my remote control. I shared my addiction with my children until they too were addicted...."

I am not making fun of you. I can truly see that irresponsible TV viewing is very much like irresponsible drinking or drugs. I have almost been late for work so I could see the end of a mindless program. I would wake up, turn the TV on and sit for hours just flicking through channels. Wow... I was addicted!

Thank goodness I started school and now do not have time to watch.... I'd never graduate if I didn't keep the TV off.

Excellent topic!
