There have been way too many duplicate posts on this board recently.
It happens everyday on one subject or another.
This is not a case of bringing up the same topic that someone has discussed weeks ago or months ago but of multiple people posting the same topic on
the same day.
Right now, there are about 5 or 6 separate threads on the Kofi Anan announcement about the Iraq war being illegal, three of them appear on the ATSNN
forum, all on the same page.
This makes discussion of these topics difficult as you have to track multiple threads to discuss the same subject.
If members can be fined for something like a one line post because it detracts from the quality of the board, should a point fine be given for extreme
situations of duplicate posts, where all a person had to do was look at the first page of the recent posts list to see if an item had been posted or
not?
This isn't just about the Kofi thread BTW, I see it often.

this comes up from time to time...
its simply,
everyone wanting to report on something and not realizing that it's already here.,,
I've Done it myself...
I don't think that members do it intentionally..

Its just people fretting for points from news threads.

I think its an influx of new members. It happens time to time. I get very frustrated with it, but I crazy. I think they do it knowing its been
posted.

Did you search the board before you posted this, I'm sure there have been threads about this before!!

Yes I did actually and nothing came up in the first few pages of posts :p
Like I said though, I'm not talking about bringing up topics that were discussed weeks ago but rather muliple threads on the same subject same day
with the same angle.

AceOfBase, I agree, the Mods would have to work overtime in order to Block, and redirect each starting of a new Post. I ask myself, okay which one do
I reply to today? But I do at the same time , understand the excitement of getting a thought, or news event out there for us to see.
But it does take away from many good threads that have started already.

That's one of the big problems, you sometimes have to post the same response in multiple threads and have to follow multiple threads. It would be
much easier if there were only a single thread.

I agree completely with this statement, I could give other examples of such duplication than the author of the topic mentioned in the first post, but
I'll only give one: the topics on the Pentagon 9/11 suspected missile strike and dementing such suspicions.

Just to point out, you can have Two stories running on the same thing, One on ATS, and One on ATSNN.

A possible solution is to post in those threads the other links on the same topic. That might get folks to reply to the original thread.
Searching seems to be a lost art. And, I know, searching doesn't always show another thread on your topic. But, it sure can't hurt.
Or, post the link(s) in the suggestion box. If the mods see there are several threads on the same subject, they may close some down.
Really, you can't expect a few mods to be able to see everything. They can use our help.
I'm willing to bet this very subject has been posted before , once upo a time in Other Board Business.

Yes I notice the influx of duplicated threads, now I notice also that one is an ATSNN news while the other one is just a regular thread.
Now that makes it hard to chose where to post and If I decide to post of both of them it may look like duplicated post
So why not copy and paste post right?

Sorry, I just had to throw this out there...
Duplicate topics ABOUT duplicate topics:
www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...
I'm sure there are tons more out there, but I can't be bothered to look.

I wasn't talking about something like that. I was talking about having 3 topics on the same thing on the eg. War On Terrorism forum, sometimes even
at the same (usually the first) page.

I'm always paranoid about posting on ATSNN in case the news story has already been created, two ATSNN threads splits the post contributions between
the threads thus reducing quality.
But saying that i've got off my arse and posted a couple of news stories on ATSNN.

Only two of those were posted before mine.
One was posted about four months prior to mine and the other was posted more than a year before mine.
Those aren't the types of duplicate posts i'm worried about.
It's the ones where you get 5 or 6 different threads on the same subject within 48 hours that are troublesome.
This morning, on these recent posts list, there were 4 or 5 duplicate threads on the first page.

OK further proof of this guy’s words:
www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...
3 topics on the same thing on the same page of the same forum!
Next time such people aren't going to be so lucky, because I'll report such cases directly to a moderator.
